So I’m sat here in the Calais Eurotunnel terminal…boarding in 2 hours and counting…great, yep you’ve probably guessed, this wasn’t the plan…we played too much in Disney and missed our train!!! Bloody marvellous.
But back to the start…’right come on, everyone up!!! It’s we need to make extra magic hours to get to Stitch!!’…a resounding chorus of groans amassing from the zombie horde that is my family…but slowly but surely they arose and got ready…even if Grayson professed that he didn’t care about meeting Stitch anymore in favour of another 5 minute sleep. Lazy buggers, I’ve been up half hour already, got ready and packed the car…and that’s after a 2am end to the previous night. Some people have no stamina…bloody youth of today!!! Speaking of youth, Mags was even flagging today, oh no, she’s not the best driver at the best of times, god help the park goers today…best day for her so far though, she only run over one kid on the way in, and a small family midway through the day…tiredness must suit her.
Right, bypass Starbucks (I know, sacrilege right??!!), but today we actually had a purpose…meet Stitch…no idea why we like a mischievous little thing so much…possibly due to the mirroring traits that Stitch shares with Alaska? Definitely!!
Bloody queue is massive already, 9am and already a queue to see Stitch around the corner of Main Street…mental!! Only a 2 hours wait in the end…2 bloody hours!! Do you know how many Hyperspace mountains I could have ridden in that time??!! But then I guess Jordan wouldn’t have had her fill of telling people off for queue jumping for the day, so alls well that ends well I guess. Anyways, finally our turn…Stitch meet and greet was awesome…stealing shit off people, making people dance…signing autographs (the latter is a big plus in Grays book to be fair, he hates any character that doesn’t write their name)…well worth the wait, got some amazing pictures and some lovely memories…it’s 11am now though and we have reservations for Captain Jacks at 12pm…and I just heard that Chip and Dale were in Adventureland…if I miss them I’ll bloody cry mun, they’re my faves!!
Come on then guys, we’ve waited long enough to meet a subpar Dale, let’s go get the real thing…nowhere to be seen, I was DEVASTATED!! Bugger it, I’m off on Indiana Jones to dry my tears. Great little ride that has hardly any wait…probably because it’s tucked right at the back of Adventureland and often gets missed, which is disappointing…really fun! Trying my best to scan the park for a peak at the new Frozen land and scout out the elusive Chip and Dale…still no luck though :(
Come on then, it’s 11:40 and time to make our way to the restaurant…and poof…Disney magic, there are my boys…CHIP AND FRICKIN DALE!!! Day made!! Managed to get in for an autograph (Grayson’s priorities ticked) and a picture…
Right then, we’re really delayed now (see a pattern here), let’s get to the restaurant. ARRRRGGHHH…yeah that right Gray, it’s a pirate restaurant. He spend most of the time there talking like a pirate, at least he met the theme.
Great atmosphere here, themes to a Caribbean beach/shipwreck theme with lanterns to light the way…couldn’t see bigger all (I guess they’re trying to give a pirates eye view of things…get it…like with an eye patch??!! Nah bugger you then!!)…the ride passes through the restaurant too which we think is really fun. Great food here, if not a little odd with the kids menu.. tuna roulade and quinoa salads for starters? Hmm, but Gray did enjoy the quinoa, Alaska, not so much…she’ll eat most things, but not tuna roulade…to be fair it looked munting!! Little Gray is 5 Saturday (yay!!), and so we’d organised a birthday cake for him there…lights go dim (well…dimmer), and a resounding chorus of happy birthday fills the cove…his little eyes lit up, he was so excited…it was almost worth the €35 euros for the cake.
Right last few rides then guys…and low and behold, fed up of driving for herself, Mags decides to join us for a pirate ship ride…Pirates of the Caribbean it is…bloody grandma must have been saving all her energy for this as she flung herself on and off the ride…bloody hell, the bloodlust must have given her superpowers of something…great to see us all have a nice family ride photo for the holiday :)
Quick, we’re on a deadline…BIG THUNDER MOUNTAIN!!!…I think it’s usurped Slinky Dog Dash to the position of Grays favourite Disney ride…he was desperate to ride it…and twice with child swap, the lucky bugger!!
Oh look it’s Jafar Gray, want a pic with him…’no dad, he doesn’t sign his name, look at his hands!!’…ah yes, sign your name or your dead to Grayson…fair enough, at least we’ll get to BTM in time then.
Bloody hell were really running late now…we still have money to spend…cue a last minute spending spree that involved a few glass coins, a few Stitch teddies and a bloody TIARA!!! A TIARA!! To be fair, Jordan has been not to subtly hinted at it, and I felt mildly obligated…after all, she’s hardly complained this trip…only a handful of times, which is good for her 🙄😂…nah she’s been great pushing the kids around most of the day so she deserves a little something for herself…no matter how strange!!
SHIIIIITTTTT, we’re gonna be really late, let’s go!!! Hammered our was to the terminal (well as fast as the speed limit and my diesel would allow)…yes!!! Just in time…or not!!! Ok, so we were booked for 19:20 and arrived at 19:05, that’s early enough right? Nope!!! Ok, next one then surely…23:20 FFS mun that’s over 4 hours away!!
We chanced it, got turned around and are now comfortably sitting in the terminal watching Netflix with a Starbucks and Grayson’s leftover birthday cake. Not too bad I guess considering.
France, we’ve had an amazing time, and made some amazing memories with my amazing little family…we laughed, smiled, maimed (in mags case) and had an all round wonderful time for Grayson’s 5th birthday holiday…see you in a year or so!!!
